Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Democrats stand in the schoolhouse door to block access to someone they don’t like.

This morning, protesters blocked the entrance to a Washington DC middle school so that Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos could not enter. Why?

Leave aside the question of whether or not you believe DeVos will make a good secretary of education. What does preventing her from visiting a middle school in one of the worst performing school districts in America accomplish? If you think she will be terrible at her job because she does not understand or value public schools, wouldn’t you want her to see what it is like in the schools you support? Wouldn’t that be an opportunity to show her the error of her ways if you think she is wrong?

Or maybe they were concerned that if she saw what DC schools were like it would only strengthen her support for school choice. Or maybe they just hate Trump so much they take every opportunity to protest anyone associated with him. Or maybe they were just bored.

I don’t know. But I can’t come up with one good reason to prevent the secretary of education from visiting a DC public school that does not speak poorly of the protesters. Grow up people. You are supposed to set an example for the students inside.
